Things to know before you start

Sect overview

Mohist Hill is one of the more unique sects in the game. Unlike others, it revolves around craftsmanship, research, construction, and scholarly progression. Your advancement depends less on social interaction and more on producing “research value” (研凿值) through crafting, gathering, and publishing papers. You can also team up with friends or fellow sect members via the “Co-author” system, which allows you to create a thesis together that will benefit the entire group.

Is Mohist Hill for you?

Good fit if:

You absolutely want the outfit!
You log in regularly and can hit a weekly deadline (Week 2, every week, no exceptions).
You’re willing to coordinate with 1-2 other players; group thesis Co-authoring is the biggest Research Value multiplier in the sect.
You want to receive extra bonuses for diagrams/blueprints and Divine Craft
You want to earn fame more easily from Bounties

Good to know before you join:

Casual and solo play both work, they’re just slower. Co-authoring gives up to +25% Research Value and disciple contributions add more, so grouping up speeds things along, but it’s not required.
Missing the Week 2 promotion window resets your progress, so if you’re playing casually, just keep that deadline on your radar.

How to join the sect?

To receive an invitation:

Be unaffiliated (have no current sect)
Enter Homestead or Solo
Create three original blueprints/designs (using someone else’s blueprints does not count)
Shortly afterward, you’ll receive an invitation to Mo Shan Dao
Travel to Hidden Mountain (不见山) and speak to Elder He (鹤长老) to officially join

Continue down and you will eventually reach this pretty area where you can find a chest

You will get specific items 20x “Mortise and Tenon Joint” and 1200x“Mohist Tally”

Looks like you can exchange tokens with Normal coins, we would recommend not to do it as it is unsure.

Progression & Research Value

What to expect

After officially joining Mohist Hill, your first priority should be becoming familiar with the sect’s progression systems. Unlike many other sects, advancement is not immediate and is tied to a weekly cycle. Most of your progress will revolve around earning Research Value (研凿值), which is used to increase your thesis score and qualify for promotions.

You will gain Research Value through a variety of activities. Over time, you’ll also unlock additional progression through Divinecraft enhancements and other sect-specific mechanics.

Sect Buffs Details

Raise Blueprint Component Cap: Mohist Sect disciples’ components cap for diagram is increased from 1000 to 2000
Raise Blueprint Storage Cap: Mohist Sect disciples’ personal diagram storage cap is increased by 15.
Divine Craft Enhancement: Mo Sect disciples can permanently enhance the effects of Divine crafted tools/items. Enhanced items can be used personally, or carefully gifted to trusted individuals.

Hidden Mountain bookstore

You’ll also want to spend some time exploring Hidden Mountain, as many of the sect’s important NPCs, shops, and facilities are located there. In particular, the bookstore is worth visiting early, as the books it sells increase the amount of Research Value you can earn from specific activities.

Mohist sect members mostly use Mohist coins to trade for goods. Besides shops within the market, there is also a Grain Exchange, originally a place for food trading, it has gradually evolved into a treasure-trading venue, where you can exchange wood, stone, fire/spark material, blue orb, purple powder, gauntlets… Also the rope martial art that pairs with gauntlets is obtained after winning a duel in one of the locations in the hidden mountain.

Ranking Up & Gaining Merit

As mentioned before, promotion revolves around accumulating Research Value (研凿值) and manually applying for advancement.

Each week, you can invite fellow sect members to participate in collaborative creation. A three-person team receives an additional 25% Research Value bonus. You can have up to 10 Co-authors

Building Thesis Score

Maximum thesis score: 4,800
Minimum passing score: 750

750 is sufficient for apprentices to submit a promotion thesis, but higher scores contribute more merit.

工正 Craft Corrector (also known as Earthworker)
工师 Craft Master (also known as Green Vine Elite)
主造 Chief Builder (also known as Yellow River Scholar)
大匠 Grandmaster

Election How to register

Only Chief Builders may register for the Grandmaster election. Upon a successful campaign, one gains the Grandmaster title for 1 week, until the next week’s Grandmaster is born. Grandmasters may not run for re-election.

Application Fee: Each application costs 10,000 treasure coins (宝钱), covering campaign preparation expenses.

Yellow River Scholars are all promoted from Mo-mountain disciples based on their scholarship and craftsmanship. Each disciple casts 4 votes, 3 blind-reviewed and 1 open-reviewed. The top 10 vote recipients are promoted to Mohist sect Grandmaster

Important Promotion Rules

Promotions are processed during Week 2.

You must manually apply for promotion.

Forgetting to apply before Week 2 ends resets your progress.

This is probably the most common mistake among Mohist members.

Ways to Gain Research Value

Thesis Score - up to 4,800 points.
Collaborative Research - up to 10 Co-authors; 3-player groups receive +25%.
Disciple Contributions - your apprentices’ work contributes to your merit.
Sect Missions.
Gathering Materials: wood, ore and magnetite – up to 2800 points.
Construction & Diagram creation – up to 1400 points.
Divinecraft Enhancements – up to 600 points.

The higher the rank the higher fame you gain from bounties.

Material farming

Small Ratchets (小棘轮) - used for Divinecraft upgrades.

Obtained from monkey enemies.

Best farming location:

Junzi Slope (君子坡)

Alternate between the two monkey camps.

Use drop-rate buffs.

You’ll need approximately 6 Small Ratchets to unlock all Tiangong enhancements.

A useful tip: purchasing wood and ore from vendors still contributes to Research Value, so don’t feel obligated to gather everything manually.

Tips, Troubleshooting & Weekly Routine

Hard Labor System

If you leave Hidden Mountain in multiplayer, you are expected to disguise yourself. If discovered, guards arrest you and you perform “hard labor.”

Ironically, hard labor is beneficial because it grants Research Value, and uses no materials from your inventory.

Can only happen once per day.

You can intentionally get caught once day for the free progress.

Elder NPC Issues

If Elder He cannot be interacted with:

Your thesis may still be awaiting Week 2 approval.
Another player may have killed the Elder.

Re-enter the area or switch instances or restart the game if necessary.

Co-author Optimization

For maximum efficiency:

Form groups of three.
Add Co-authors while your thesis score is still 0.
Coordinate with friends and mutually add each other.

This provides the highest long-term Research Value gains.

Suggested weekly routine

Complete sect missions.
Farm monkeys for Small Ratchets.
Gather or buy wood, ore, and magnetite.
Create diagrams (9 repetitions for easy points).
Place construction objects.
Coordinate collaborative research.
Submit your thesis.
Apply for promotion during Week 2.
Get arrested once for free hard labor progress (optional)

How to leave the sect

Like any other sect, you betray your master, get teleported to perception forest, after that you will lose all your sect benefits and become sectless.
